Muhammad Abubakar Memon is a Teaching Fellow in the Department of Economics at the ³Ô¹ÏÍ·Ìõ (³Ô¹ÏÍ·Ìõ). With over 19 years of progressive post-qualification experience spanning data science, quantitative economic research, and statistical analysis, he brings a wealth of empirical expertise to the faculty. He holds an MS in Data Science from NU-FAST, alongside an MS and an MSc in Economics & Statistics from the International Islamic University, Islamabad.
At ³Ô¹ÏÍ·Ìõ, Mr. Memon specializes in conducting research lab sessions and tutorials for graduate and undergraduate quantitative courses, including Applied Microeconomics and Poverty and Income Distribution. He plays an integral role in advising students and faculty on complex econometric modeling, data mining, and advanced data visualization techniques. Prior to his current teaching appointment, he served for nearly a decade as the Research Fellow and Data Manager of the ³Ô¹ÏÍ·Ìõ Data Resource Unit (DRU). In this capacity, he was instrumental in setting up, building, and managing the university’s large-scale online repository of national census, household, and industrial micro-data.
An accomplished applied researcher, Mr. Memon has participated in funded research and consultancy grants exceeding Rs. 260 million. He has designed extensive provincial and national representative sampling frameworks and executed data operations for more than 20 policy-shaping reports. His collaborative footprint spans prestigious international agencies, including the World Bank, UNICEF, WaterAid, the Department for International Development (DFID) UK, OXFAM, and the International Growth Centre (IGC). His research interests focus on poverty, socioeconomic inequality, climate sensitivity, and industrial productivity, with co-authored research published in peer-reviewed venues such as the Journal of Housing Economics.
